Nestling along the coast close to the border with Northern Cyprus is the beautiful resort of Kapparis.
Restful cafe bars, restaurants and several small supermarkets populate the main road. Plus a couple of car hire/excursion agents and several medium sized hotel apartment complexes.
The atmosphere on resort is very relaxed and laid back which makes it the ideal place for a chill out holiday.
There are several small beaches just off the main street with water sports and snack bars for those lazy sun filled days of sunbathing and swimming.
Despite being such a laid back place the village has recently developed into an all year resort with many of the bars and shops remaining open throughout the winter months.
This may be due to the growing number of Europeans who continue to make the Island their home many of them British.
A short stroll from main street is the buffer zone between North and South Cyprus. Inside a small zoo there is a lookout tower where you can see across the border into the north and an information center outlining the history of the divided Island.
Ten minutes walk from the main street is fireman's beach, aptly named due to the location of the fire service training school at the top of the cliff. From here you can see right across to Famagusta resort with its empty hotels and deserted beach.
At the opposite end of the main road you will find the Protaras aquarium, which is worth a look, and whilst you are that end of town there is a lovely cove with a beautiful church overlooking the sea.
If you find that can't cope with all this relaxation don't panic because the lively resort of Protaras is only 3kilometers up the road and Ayia Napa with its world renowned nightlife is also only a bus ride away from Kapparis center.
The sun drenched high street used to be the main road to Famagusta town. Once it was the jewel in the crown and the premier Mediterranean port. Famagusta is now a ghost town following the 1974 invasion when the Turkish occupied the Northern half of the Isalnd. Famagusta with its miles of white sandy beaches and towering hotels now lies in total dereliction within full view of all those living in Kapparis.
