Paphos

The town is in fact two distinct areas, Paphos and Kato Paphos the old and the new.

The old part of the town is where you can visit most of the archaeological places of interest such as Paphos harbour with the old medieval fort. This is a great place to relax with a cool drink or a meal in one of the many restaurants whilst looking out over the beautiful Mediterranean ocean.

A short walk away you will find an ancient roman theatre and the house of Dionysus with its famous tiled floor also dating back to the time of the roman occupation.

Be sure to visit the tombs of the kings where you can actually go down into many of the excavated tombs (don’t worry the original residents have long since left) and see how the rich inhabitants of Cyprus were laid to rest.

While you are in the area visit the church with the stone pillar where the apostle Saint Paul was flogged for preaching Christianity to the Greeks in Paphos.

Walking a few kilometers up the hill from the harbor brings you to the main part of the old town where there is a large indoor market and shopping area where you can pick up some great bargains.

At the other end of the sea front road is the modern marina with its trendy restaurants and new holiday home developments. There are plenty of shops to browse in all the way along this stretch which makes for a pleasant stroll should you suffer from relaxation overload.
