Pissouri

 

Although one of the lesser known resorts Pissouri has plenty to offer those seeking a relaxing Cyprus holiday. It is not an overdeveloped resort with less Cyprus beach hotels than some of the larger resorts in the area.

The Pissouri beach area, which was originally a small fishing jetty serving the village, has grown into a pleasant resort area with some excellent tavernas a couple of banks and a few shops.

The atmosphere is very laid back and friendly making it the ideal place for those seeking a slower pace of life. With the motorway close by the rest of the area is easily accessible making Pissouri a great base from which to explore the rest of Cyprus Just 3 kilometers to the west is the legendary “rock of Aphrodite” mythical birthplace of the Greek goddess of love. The story is told of how she was born out of the rock, rose naked from the sea and was carried to the shore by the wind on a scallop shell. Immortalized in the famous painting by Botticelli.

There is a tranquil village square with tavernas and restaurants many of which are open all year round. and also regular performances in the newly built amphitheatre throughout the summer months. 

The locals are amongst the friendliest on the island and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them when it comes to looking after holiday makers. Many returning visitors are often greeted by the first names and don't be surprised if you are offered the odd tipple of ouzo whilst browsing the shops.  

Pissouri has often been referred to by some non Cypriots as "the town that time forgot" which is far from the reality of this beautiful haven.

Many families are so enthralled with this lovely resort that they return year after year to a warm welcome Cypriot welcome.
